CircularPack: Circular plastic food packaging for V-range foodstuffs
Project
Circular Pack: circular packaging in V-range food plastics
Development of circular PET and PP/PE (V-range food plastic) packaging for a more sustainable future.
Objectives
- Development of more environmentally sustainable mono-material packaging systems based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyolefins (PE/PP) that are micro-bakeable and pasteurizable for V Range products, in order to reduce environmental impact and waste generation.
- Analysis of the recyclability, circularity and costs assignable to the raw material and processes of PET and PP/PE packaging systems.
- Evaluation of the plastic environmental footprint of PET and PP/PE packaging made of recycled and recyclable material, in order to know the reduction of the environmental impact associated with new circular products compared to the traditional solutions existing in the market.
- Reduction of the environmental impact of V Range packaging quantified using the multi-criteria environmental footprint indicator based on the Life Cycle Analysis methodology.
- Triple Bottom Line (TBL) analysis of the new line of business proposed in the project, to identify its contribution to the energy-climate and social transitions of the territory.
- Generation of a new profitable and sustainable line of business oriented to job creation and improvement of business competitiveness of the territory.
- Promote the contribution to the following SDGs:
- SDG3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
- SDG9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
- SDG12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- SDG13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
- SDG14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.
Contributing:
- ELIMINATE single-use plastic materials.
- CLOSE the life cycle of post-consumer PET and PP/PE packaging to zero waste.
- ENCOURAGE the use of safer and more sustainable substances in the context of the circular economy.
- DEVELOP recycled PET and PP/PE packaging that reduces waste generation.
- PROMOTE the recyclability of post-consumer PET and PP/PE packaging through Ecodesign.
- REDUCE the environmental footprint of PET and PP/PE food packaging throughout its life cycle.
- PROMOTE the diversification of the Basque business fabric.
