Compesost

Continuing the work begun in MONSOS, the COMPESOST project has focused its efforts on accelerating key capabilities so that cooperatives can not only comply with new regulatory frameworks on sustainability, but also strategically manage their communication on sustainability, doing so in a manner consistent with the identifying characteristics of each organisation.

Funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy through the PERTE for Social Economy and Care, COMPESOST is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), co-financed with NextGenerationEU funds. This support has enabled the deployment of an ambitious intervention focused on applied training, strategic capacity building and the generation of transferable knowledge.

The MIK Economics and Finance team, in close collaboration with the MONDRAGON Corporation, has promoted an intensive and applied training programme focused on three fundamental areas:

  • Reporting in accordance with CSRD and ESRS.
  • The integration of ESG criteria into strategic planning.
  • The use of the EcoVadis assessment system as a tool for continuous improvement.

The training approach has gone far beyond technical training. We have worked with a phased project logic, aimed at generating measurable results, operational roadmaps and, at the same time, useful and replicable knowledge. Both the technical requirements for disclosure and their translation into organisational decisions and internal management systems have been addressed. At the same time, we have begun to reflect on the distinctive features of cooperativism and how these can be integrated into the reports to be disclosed.

The development of the project has been supported by a strategic alliance with MONDRAGON, designed not only to support projects currently underway, but also as a lever for new developments, both organisational and academic. In addition, we have consolidated an interdisciplinary team that brings together experts in sustainable finance, impact measurement, corporate sustainability and cooperativism, giving rise to a stable and promising line of work.

Overall, COMPESOST has helped lay the foundations for solid knowledge, professionalise critical sustainability skills, and strengthen an internal community capable of integrating three fundamental pillars — regulatory compliance (CSRD), strategy (ESG) and assessed performance (EcoVadis) — under a single management language, consistent with the values and principles of cooperativism.
